The End.

Decided to split the slides up into relevant sections this way we could all pick which sections we had to most involvement with and talk about it. We all agreed on letting everyone say something, its also much simpler talking about things you've actually been researching on.

Business Plan

Open publication - Free publishing - More book klub

This is the final business plan which Sophie had laid out in a nice clean issuu file with the corresponding design style from my zene.

Location

The location we have picked is 6 Blenheim terrace which is a ideal location between the universities allowing student traffic to pass by the shop. The rental space is large enough to house an ground floor shop space and an upstairs printing room which we can use to print out inhouse design and print customer work at a 30% commission.

These are a few photoshop moch ups matt made from the outside of the shop.

Posters for shop

These are some of the posters i designed to be sold within the shop and put in the zine to help bulk up some of the promotional material we have.

No.Zine

Sarah posted a link to this site and wow. The majority of zines I came across were all very illustration based, not really placed on a grid and just generelly pretty mental on each page. I dont mind this but i'm a very process and structured designer. No.Zine's is like an amazing intermediate for all these zenes i found, each page is different but it follows a set of structures, rules and you can clearly see that there has been a lot of type considerations done for it.

Issue 1

Living Wages

This is an estimate of my living wages for what i need to ear to keep afloat for the year, we decided as a group that it would be best to bring down total costs if we all got a part time job for the first year so i will be working at a local printers while working as a retail assistant/designer within the BookKlub shop.

Natwest Online business Plan

I started off the business plan to the point where we just needed finance to be added into it the general over view of it was nicely broken down by natwest' online business plan.

Competitors

Salford Zine Library

Publishes a wide range of printed products, based in Leeds and shares the same range of customers and Book Klub. As a company Salford Zine do not have their own printing facility so they would be dependant on a outside printers.

Village (Zines)

This is a company which specialises in selling independent art books and zines from designers. They would have the same type of creative audience as Book Klub but they do not sell a wide range of printed products they specialise only in Zines and Books.

Group Stuff

Just some old logo's I had on my hard drive to spark some book club idea's

2nd Group Meeting

After Coming back over the i had set up a space in my room and did some rostrum shots of items i could collect between me and matt

The first thing i noticed was the wooden desk was far too dark and it was taking a lot of focus of the items so we would need to get a lighter base stock. The lighting in my room was also not up to scratch so for this to work properly we needed to book a studio to use some of the lighting. But all and all it could work!

We all spoke about items we could use and gave matt some feedback for the logo. Sophy booked the photography studio for the monday and got all the kit out. After discussing the photos taken over the weekend i went to woodwork and got a lighter shade wood to still give that wood characteristic. Our end result looked a little something like this:

Final Add with the Design added to it by using photoshop

First Group Meeting

In the group meeting we discussed what we all wanted to do and what are skills were. As a group we decided starting a Print Based company in Leeds which will showcase printed design from students. There were a few name idea's out there but we settled on 'Book Klub' which we all felt was a fun light hearted name and would work well as a company name. The slogan we picked was 'The library of Printed Design' this name worked well with the name.

For our Creative Ad we spoke about idea's for doing a rostrum shot of everyday graphic design equipment then overlaying the logo and slogan on the image. We all set some tasks to go away and do, matt's task was to do the logo, i did some test shots for the rostrum in my room to check any problems which might of cropped up, sophy did research and any idea's of items to put in the shot aswell.

Retail Space

This is a google maps image of a retail space being let on the corner of woodhouse and Bleinheim a perfect location between the University of Leed and the College of art. This is a good location as any students are just a minutes walk away from the shop and its not completely in the city centre so renting space will be a bit cheaper.
