The FUTUREEEEEEE

Decided to split the slides up into relevant sections this way we could all pick which sections we had to most involvement with and talk about it. We all agreed on letting everyone say something, its also much simpler talking about things you've actually been researching on.

Location
The location we have picked is 6 Blenheim terrace which is a ideal location between the universities allowing student traffic to pass by the shop. The rental space is large enough to house an ground floor shop space and an upstairs printing room which we can use to print out inhouse design and print customer work at a 30% commission.
These are a few photoshop moch ups matt made from the outside of the shop.

Posters for shop
These are some of the posters i designed to be sold within the shop and put in the zine to help bulk up some of the promotional material we have.
No.Zine
Sarah posted a link to this site and wow. The majority of zines I came across were all very illustration based, not really placed on a grid and just generelly pretty mental on each page. I dont mind this but i'm a very process and structured designer. No.Zine's is like an amazing intermediate for all these zenes i found, each page is different but it follows a set of structures, rules and you can clearly see that there has been a lot of type considerations done for it.
Issue 1
Living Wages
This is an estimate of my living wages for what i need to ear to keep afloat for the year, we decided as a group that it would be best to bring down total costs if we all got a part time job for the first year so i will be working at a local printers while working as a retail assistant/designer within the BookKlub shop.
Natwest Online business Plan
I started off the business plan to the point where we just needed finance to be added into it the general over view of it was nicely broken down by natwest' online business plan.

Competitors
Salford Zine Library
Publishes a wide range of printed products, based in Leeds and shares the same range of customers and Book Klub. As a company Salford Zine do not have their own printing facility so they would be dependant on a outside printers.
Village (Zines)
This is a company which specialises in selling independent art books and zines from designers. They would have the same type of creative audience as Book Klub but they do not sell a wide range of printed products they specialise only in Zines and Books.

2nd Group Meeting
After Coming back over the i had set up a space in my room and did some rostrum shots of items i could collect between me and matt
The first thing i noticed was the wooden desk was far too dark and it was taking a lot of focus of the items so we would need to get a lighter base stock. The lighting in my room was also not up to scratch so for this to work properly we needed to book a studio to use some of the lighting. But all and all it could work!
We all spoke about items we could use and gave matt some feedback for the logo. Sophy booked the photography studio for the monday and got all the kit out. After discussing the photos taken over the weekend i went to woodwork and got a lighter shade wood to still give that wood characteristic. Our end result looked a little something like this:

Final Add with the Design added to it by using photoshop

First Group Meeting
In the group meeting we discussed what we all wanted to do and what are skills were. As a group we decided starting a Print Based company in Leeds which will showcase printed design from students. There were a few name idea's out there but we settled on 'Book Klub' which we all felt was a fun light hearted name and would work well as a company name. The slogan we picked was 'The library of Printed Design' this name worked well with the name.
For our Creative Ad we spoke about idea's for doing a rostrum shot of everyday graphic design equipment then overlaying the logo and slogan on the image. We all set some tasks to go away and do, matt's task was to do the logo, i did some test shots for the rostrum in my room to check any problems which might of cropped up, sophy did research and any idea's of items to put in the shot aswell.

Retail Space
This is a google maps image of a retail space being let on the corner of woodhouse and Bleinheim a perfect location between the University of Leed and the College of art. This is a good location as any students are just a minutes walk away from the shop and its not completely in the city centre so renting space will be a bit cheaper.
Enterprise Research - Print Club London
Print Club London stocks a wide variety of creative well finished printed design. Suited to a more adult audience in it's humour and content. London based print studio.

Enterprise Task 5
I
Working within a team in a well established studio would suit me much better than working freelance at first as i would learn much more quickly off my peers then trying to go at it on my own. I also like the idea of working within a team and would benefit from it far more then being an independent designer.
II
I do not want to work for a large firm where i would be just a small cog in a big design wheel, i am very passionate about my projects and want to be as involved as possible with everything i work with start to finish.
III
I like the idea of working in england for a short period of time after my degree to build some industry experience but my real goal and ambition is to work abroad for a number of years either within Europe or in Canada. This would also greatly benefit my experience and design techniques.
IV
As of yet i am not entirely sure what market to work within, its too soon to tell but my interest lie strongly within the music industry and then various other high end markets like fashion/architecture/property/photography/art and culture.
V
My skill set at this point is still developing rapidly I am starting to produce work which you can recognise as my own unique style but its still too early. Currently what stands out the most is my organisational and project management skills.
VI
I would like to collaborate with other designers with simular ideas but different skill sets within the future to produce unique projects as I have no problem with working in a team.
VII
My aim in life is eventually to own and run my own small specialist studio but this would be a goal after i have gained sufficient experience within the industry and got my own skills to a point where i can comfortably run a studio.
VIII
I would like to work closely with a printing studio for a short period of time to build up my experience with printing processes, this would give me a good insight of how printing works first hand.
IX
One of my key skills i have been developing throughout graphic design is photography and i would like to keep developing this so i can integrate as much photography within my work as possible.
X
I suppose one of my Skills is being bilingual and then understanding Dutch as well, living in 3 different countries has really opened my eyes and become a motivator to work abroad. Going somewhere new and experiencing different cultures and learning as much as i can really excites me and makes me work much harder to achieve my goals.

Enterprise task 4
Marquee Creative is studio which really stands out for me the work they produce is always at a professional level. They cover various sectors of clients which range from Architecture, Fashion, Finance, Property and more. The work they produce covers print and web based designs. Their is a mix of design within the projects they have done but what attracted my attention is the use of photography, type and minimal design. The only draw back from this studio is its a large one with various branches abroad, i am not sure if i want to work for such a large company although it would give opportunities in other countries.
Spin Studio's work really got me excited about working in the industry, the work they produce really fresh exciting work which is what i aim to produce by the end of my 3rd year. Their work is based heavily around type and image in the form of photography, they produce a lot of print based work but also design for screen. Spin is a multi award winning studio with awards from D&AD.
I dont know what the size of the company is but its a based within London which is a potential city i would be willing to work in after my degree.
Designed by Family is another studio i am interested in potentially working for, the sectors they collaborate in is music, fashion, arts and culture. They cover a wide range of specialisms which shows through in their client work. The company is based in birmingham, im not entirely sure if i would want to work in birmingham after my degree, id prefer to work either in london or manchester.
