Promoting myself as a designer is a important part of getting yourself and your work out there to be noticed by employers and clients. At the moment my main aim is to work for a small design studio instead of working freelance, this will influence how i need to promote myself and my skill set to a specialised design studio. Working in a studio as a start also covers me if i make any mistakes which are bound to happen and could be incredibly costly if I was working freelance. Depending on what type of Studio i try to get a job from will determine what graphic design skill set to put forward, I will also have to show that i can work collaboratively and that i have people skills.
A studio i would be interested in working for would be Spin studio, the work they produce as a studio reflect my ambitions as a designer well. Their current work portfolio has a lot of type based work using photography as image. The range of work they have is mainly print and web based.
For me to get this studio's attention for a potential placement i would need to get a online presence where i can show my work and skills to produce and design a webspace for myself. Having business cards is always handy for when you unexpectedly meet someone, its a way of giving someone something which is memorable and can later redirect them to your webspace with a more detailed idea of your work.
Exhibiting your work is another way to get it out in the public domain where potential employers can see it and contact you. Large events like D&AD gives a lot of public exposure and would be ideal to exhibit work.
